Single administration

To be used in cows with functional corpus luteum present on the ovary (detection per rectum, by progesterone test in milk/blood, use heat records)

Double administration

Two injections of PGF2α with 11-14d interval result in luteolysis in high percentage of animals with active ovaries (cycling). Cows showing heat after the first injection can be serviced or the whole group can be managed simultaneously after the second injection.

Although timed AI is possible, the best results are obtained with AI at detected heat.

Double PG injection - AI detected heat

Double PG injection - AI fixed time

Systematic administration so called targeted breeding

A so called Targeted Breeding program was defined to improve reproductive efficiency in large dairy herds. In this system cows are systematically treated on the same day of the week, to facilitate treatment and AI during the weekdays. Animals receive prostaglandin injection at 14-day intervals and are inseminated at detected oestrus. Cows not detected in oestrus after a third prostaglandin treatment, are inseminated at fixed time at 72-80h after the last PGF injection.
