Management of the recipient cow

Depending on the procedure selected, direct transfer or transfer of frozen embryos, the oestrus cycle of the recipient cow is synchronised to facilitate the transfer of the embryo 6-8 days after ovulation.

Direct embryo transfer

For a successful direct transfer of fresh embryos, the recipient must be in good health and its cycle well synchronized with that of the donor. Asynchrony of 24 hours or more has a negative effect on conception.

To ensure good synchronisation and facilitate the process the same basic synchronisation program is usually applied to donors and recipients.
